2008 CLINICS

Live To Ride Horses with Angie and Jenny!  Trail Clinics and more!

For More information on the Live To Ride Program, read on below or visit our Live To Ride Website by clicking on our logo here:

I am teaming up with professional trainer, Angie Robinette-Dublin of Cowgirl Up Farm in Berkeley Springs W. Va this year to teach "LIVE TO RIDE" TRAIL RIDING clinics in OH, W. VA, and beyond.  Angie is also a certified Kathy Huggins trainer and has also completed the Josh Lyons Trail Riding Clinic at Cook Forest.  In addition, Angie has completed the Josh Lyons Performance Clinic in Colorado and will be completing Josh's Accredited Program in August 2008.

If your horse is "jiggy" on the trail, has no speed control, is afraid to cross downed trees, water, or bridges, always wants to be out front, simply just won't "go", or if you just need more confidence, this clinic is for you.  We'll teach you how to control your horse and get what you want when you want it...all while trying to have some fun!  Afterall, trail riding is supposed to be fun.  However, trail riding safely and enjoyably also takes training.  Horses will be expected to walk and trot under saddle (unless you don't mind learning on the ground with your green horse and taking it for a trail walk.)  You will then have to be in shape!  No stallions.  Proof of Negative Coggins required.  Auditors $10 each.

We have planned the following dates for ONE DAY clinics with specific details such as the exact trail to be determined if not listed.  Maximum 8 per session.

Each day will cost $125 in cash or check (non-refundable unless impossible due to weather or natural disaster...payment due upon sign up and at least 5 days prior to clinic date).  You will provide your own horse, water, hay, lunch for you, travel etc.  Our HOST FARM will recieve one slot in the clinic free of charge for leading our trail rides on their familiar property.

4 X 4 CLINIC PROGRAM

No Fences 4 x 4 Program:

This new mini clinic caters to the horse rider, owner, or new trainer looking to improve their communication with his/her horse by learning or improving skills in different areas of training.  Each clinic will focus on a particular piece of training and will offer classroom, demonstration, and practice for 4 horses & handlers for 4 hours on a Saturday.  With this small class, you will recieve personal attention and also have the benefit of learning how different horses might respond which enriches your learning experience.  All of this for only $50 per person.

You will need to bring hay for your horse if you would like so that they are comfortable while you might be practicing or having class, a sack lunch or snack depending on the time of day your clinic runs (there will be a half an hour break during all sessions), a halter and lead (8-10' cotton preferred), a 36" dressage whip or a "carrot stick" (if you prefer), a bridle fitted with a full cheek snaffle for classes featuring bridle work, and protective boots for your horse's legs if you have them.

NO stallions or pets are allowed and you MUST provide a copy of your horse's vaccinations (4 or 5 way shots), strangles vaccine highly recommended, and/or a health certificate from your Vet.  All horses must also be fit and in good health upon arrival.  Facility reserves the right to turn away any sickly horses.

You may bring a friend to help you.  However, they will not be provided with handouts, may not bring a horse, and are expected to be considerate of all students who have paid for the session.  They may listen and observe.

Students must be 13 yrs or older.  If participating in a riding session, all participants under 18 yrs of age must wear a helmet.  Everyone must wear appropriate attire and heeled boots.  All participants will also be required to sign a liability release.

2007 CLINICS

Julie Goodnight in 2007!

Julie Goodnight presented a wonderful clinic here in the summer of 2007.  Thanks Julie!

No Fences 4 x 4 Training Clinics

These exciting clinics were completed in 2007:

January 27, 2007:  Another Bridle Work Clinic for those of you who missed the first one and Advancing Your Bridle Work for those of you who are ready to move your horse's shoulder and hips with softness and precision (possibly learning how to take to this to the saddle as well).  We will work with you at your level of training especially since it is winter and some of you may not have had a chance to keep your horses in tune.  We're going to try less classroom and theory this time and more actual time working with the horses and see how it goes.  You may still want your "helper" to take some notes!  11:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. with a 1/2 hour break for snacks you bring and warm up!

March 10, 2007:  Round Pen Reasoning with Sacking Out and Spook In Place to get ready for the trail and showpen.  Teach your horse to  stay calm and still when something potentially "scary" flaps in the wind, approaches them, or touches them so that you always remain as safe as possible.  Examples are flags, umbrellas, ropes being tossed at them and so on.  11:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. with a 1/2 break for snacks you bring and warm up!  It is best if you have some experience in Round Penning and having your horse lock onto you with both eyes already.  Otherwise, you will need to learn that step first.  We will also show you how these can be taught on a lead rope if you do not have a round pen or small enclosure available to use.  However, you may consider renting our facility or buying a monthly arena pass (see the Rent Facility page on the website).

March 24, 2007:  Advanced Bridlework.  Learn to move your horse's hips and shoulders with precision.  Imagine that the mounting block is actually a mounting "rock" and can't be moved.  Can you manuever your horse to stand where you need him to in order to mount safely?  You wander down a narrow trail only to find it ends and you need to back up in a zigzag to get out...can you do that?  Perform a reverse arc.  11:00 a.m- 3:30 p.m. with a 1/2 hour break for snacks you bring and to warm up!  This clinic is best suited for clients who have their horses to move shoulders and hips in general.

Saturday, April 28, 2007:  Cowboy Dressage.  Your horse can still learn relaxation, rhythm, and straightness in your western saddle.  Learn the basics that can take you to leg yields, sidepasses, and true balance & collection.11:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m.  Call 440-759-2230 or email nofences@ncwcom.com with any questions.

2006 CLINICS

Ohio Horseman's Council Demo

August 21, 2006

We had great time with a potluck, meeting about our regional ride (see more on our Lorain County OHC website     http://www.loraincountyohc.com/ ) and a demonstration on things pertinent to communication with your horse, sacking out your horse for trail riding, and teaching your horse to cross obstacles.  If your organization would like a demonstration, please let me know.

Julie Goodnight Clinic June 2, 2006

We had a fabulous, private training session with Julie with only 4 riders per session.  Everyone loved the personal attention they received.  We are talking to Julie about doing another small clinic piggybacked onto her 2007 Ohio clinic (place to be determined on her larger forum).

The Westfall Clinic in April, 2006

We had a beautiful day and wonderful session here in spring of 2006 with Jesse and Stacy Westfall.  Thank you for a great clinic!

SHE WON!  STACY IS THE FIRST WOMAN ENTERED AND HAS WON THE NATIONAL ROAD TO THE HORSE TRAINER CHALLENGE held 2/25-26, 2006 in Murfreesboro, TN!  She was able to complete the starting of a young colt in 3 hours, riding it in a huge indoor arena at all 3 gaits on the rail, and manuevering an obstacle course in front of thousands of people!  It was quite a display of horsemanship!  After the first hour of training, Stacy wanted to stay close to her philosophy of developing a relationship with her horses, so she bought the colt and named him Popcorn!

Stacy And Jesse Westfall of Mt. Gilead, Ohio will be bringing their years of experience in reining training, judging, and competing to the Equine Adventure Center located right here at the Lance farm in Wellington, Ohio on April 15 from 9 am - 5 pm.  See the links for more information and to watch Stacy win the NRHA futurity and open classes on Can Can Lena riding bridleless!
